Development of confocal optical oxygen measurement techniques
Until now, it was not possible to measure oxygen optically in 3D cultures. With the development of our oxygen-sensitive microcavity arrays, this is now possible. The system is therefore not only suitable for the production of spheroids or organoids and their microscopic analysis, but now the oxygen concentration in the direct microenvironment of spheroids/organoids can also be measured. As microcavity arrays are an ideal platform for 3D cultures, we are currently also trying to enable optical oxygen measurement in the third dimension. For the first time in the world, the system enables not only optical oxygen measurements in 3D cultures, but also three-dimensional optical oxygen measurements using confocal microscopy systems. The illustrations show that this is possible with oxygen-sensitive microcavity arrays.
