Abstract
Driven by the Industry 4.0 movement, the process industry in Germany is undergoing a transformation. Production processes must be designed to be more flexible, more effective in terms of product yield, product quality and production time, and more efficient in the use of available resources in order to sustainably secure Germany as a technology and business location despite increasing competitive pressure. A consistent process transformation towards cyber-physical production processes with a higher level of automation is inevitable in order to achieve a stringent optimisation and flexibilisation of production.
