Sequence based community analysis of polymicrobial infections

At October 9/10 the meeting of the ESCMID Study Group for Biofilms (ESGB) was held in Rome with the topic “Biofilm-based Healthcare-associated Infections: From Microbiology to Clinics”.Andreas Dötsch was rewarded with a poster prize for presenting a poster on “Sequence based community analysis of polymicrobial infections”.

In the project presented on the poster, the oral microflora of healthy and infected artifical tooth implants was compared by Next-Generation Sequencing (sequencing of 16S-rDNA amplicons). The results clearly show the influence of the type of cement used with the implant on the occurrence of pathogenic bacteria and the development of implant-associated infections (peri-implantitis).
