Abstract
Reinforced concrete structures situated in offshore zones are exposed to the action of chloride-rich water. In many of these structures, corrosion of the steel reinforcement is eventually observed. In order to plan and design adequate impregnation treatments and subsequent quality control of the treatment, it is essential to know the relationship between penetration depth of the water repellent agent and the effectiveness of the corresponding chloride barrier. In this contribution some test results are presented for determining the penetration depth of newly developed water repellent agents on different types of concrete. Measurement results for the breakthrough pressure and the chloride penetration resistance for water repellent treated concrete are described.
